Career Advice

Do you know what career you want and how to make it a reality? Prehaps you don't even know what you want to do and are just looking for something with decent pay. Your career can be crippled by indecision and lack of proper direction. You need to be able to apply yourself to developing effective skills as well as gaining both experience and an industry specific education.

The sooner you work out a career plan the better. Not surpisingly many educational institutions, particularly schools, have career advisers available to students for free. Some are better than others, but if you are a student you should definitely make use of free career advice, so go and check if career advice is available to you. One word of caution though: "free" career advice from "commercial" training companies may be very biased towards convincing you to take their own courses (the advisor may even earn a commision). If the depth of their advice is just "do our courses" then you may be better off going to an independent adviser even if you have to pay for their services.

BOOKS VS PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

If you can't get free support, consider either a book or professional advice. A book or two will be much cheaper and can be quite thorough but will be generic and you can't ask a book questions. A professional can actively help you with custom advice for you but will cost more.
